Default i7-2600K vs. i7-8700K - Is Upgrading Worthwhile? COMMENT THREAD

Sandy Bridge processors like the i7-2600K were CPUs that defined a generation and they've stood the test of time. But with Coffee Lake now here, is it finally time to upgrade?

Read more here: i7-2600K vs. i7-8700K - Is Upgrading Worthwhile?

FINALLY! You've seen some of this on the YouTube channel but now you've got a ton of additional testing as well.

This is the kind of performance boost we should be getting with each new generation. I miss the old days. Now you want to upgrade more for other things like m.2/usb 3.1/new pcie/better onboard audio/ect and not the meager performance gain from generation to generation.

Really makes me wonder how much of the incremental nature of recent Intel "upgrades" can be laid at the feet of not having any real competition in the marketplace.

It is impossible to say definitively but I doubt Intel would have been able to accomplish more than what we have seen. Why did AMD wait SO long before they brought us Zen? Mismanagement?

Default Question about 1080ti results

Great article. Looks like I won't be upgrading my gaming machine for a while although the minimum fps/frametime improvements are decent especially for high Hz monitors. Just to clarify, were the 1080ti results with OC'd CPUs because the chart does not indicate that.

I think one thing to note, which would be why I would personally make the upgrade from a Z87 platform, is the addition of m.2 pcie SSD's and the performance they bring to the table as well. I'll probably end up going the i5-8600k, and a 960 Evo. Should be a nice noticeable upgrade from 4690k and SATA3 SSD's. (That and a GTX 1070)...

Long story short, not for gamers, unless you have the absolute best GPU!

The way I look at it is that you are upgrading the entire system, better connectivity options, better storage options, as well the cpu. So if those interest you and you want something that will perform better all around (not just games) then I think it could be worth it.

One thing I am wondering about is the effect of multi-card systems on these platforms.

Multi card setups are dying a rapid death in the last few years it seems. But I agree with everything you said.
