Really? Reading through the FAQ and I see nothing about delidding. I'm not saying your wrong, I'd just like a little proof (quote from intel rep, news article or something) is all.

I'm still looking for that link but I saw on Reddit a chat transcript where it said that Delidding was covered. After looking further it seems some websites and reviewers are saying it's not covered.

If Intel and AMD keep upping the heat like this, do you think HWC will switch to a 360mm radiator water cooling setup for the overclocking reviews? (or attach 5000RPM Delta fans to the air cooler)

This will be a difficult processor for almost anyone to justify. It's more of an academic achievement and less a realistic option. I think if they had at least provided ECC support instead of fusing it off, and getting at least one manufacturer to produce a "niche" ECC supported board, you could somewhat justify it.. but I just can't see the value here.
...
Lack of ECC is only one of the things that limits the customer base for these CPUs. Two of the previous generation's 10 core Xeons comes up cheaper than the expensive i9 with the tradeoff that you have the socket to socket communication latency but you get ECC RAM. When the Xeons of this generation come out, then this "competition" with the Xeon gets worse. Also, the $4000 USD you would spend on one of these machines could also buy you about 1900 hours of compute time with 36-thread Amazon EC2 spot instances, +/- depending on what kind of disks or networking you need.
