It'll come down to SKYMTL's luck with the silicon lottery. Reviews elsewhere though are not encouraging. 5GHz does not seem to be possible with this chip. Most are topping at the 4.6 - 4.8 GHz range, at least on air. It's 5-10C cooler, but not the same temps as say, a 2600K.

Yeah, seems they just took a 4770k glued on some resistors and bumped the speed up 500Mhz. Something anyone could do with their 4770k. Sad, I really though they had something there seeing as they want $480.00 for it.

Wait, where did you see $480? Everything I've read (including the HWC preview article) indicates the 4790K MSRP is $339.99, which is $5 higher than the 4770K... whether that translates to Canada remains to be seen.

Spent the night overclocking and stability testing. 5GHz 24/7 3D stable on air? I call BS. Possible but it'll have to be a one in one hundred chip.

That seems to be the consensus amongst the other two or three reviewers that I have seen so far. All claiming their ES's may not be indicitive of retail and that things may yet get rosier. I doubt that very much. Unless Intel picked the samples from the bottom of the barrel.

Apparently these es samples reviewers are getting are binned to more reflect what retail will provide acording to Fugger at es.org, also as I mentioned before oc of guys on oc.net that have them already seem to be 4.8- 5.3, water cooling is good for these chips and phase change as cold bug seems to be ramped with the liquid nitrogen.
