Default Hashwell refresh work on 8 series chipset?

Hey folks,

I was wondering if the refresh works with the 8 series chipset since I'm building a PC for my brother with spare parts.

Id say give it time im sure there will be a bios update avaliable. Maybe depends on the mobo. Im sure the motherboard will least let ya in bios? Never had option to test it out though.

The “Devil’s Canyon” line of products for performance enthusiasts and overclockers feature marginally different packaging with improved thermal interface material, which promises to enable higher overclocking potential. While the chips come in LGA1150 form-factor, they are only compatible with the Intel Z97 and the Intel H97 platforms.
Intel ‘Devil’s Canyon’

Devil’s Canyon is the new code-name for a new unlocked (K-series) CPU exclusively for Intel 9-series motherboards.
exception seems to be the 20th anniversary Pentium which Z87 will support.

^^^+1 The last I read all haswell refresh are fine on z87 with a bios update (4790/4690), but the yet to be released devil's canyon will need z97.

Pre-order prices of G3258, i5-4690K and i7-4790K unlocked CPUs
Here are the specs and prices for Intel's Haswell Refresh CPUs - The Tech Report
haswell refresh can be seen as devils canyon (3 chips) or the whole slew of 20 something chips, everything I read says DC is only properly supported by the 9 series chipsets (also meant for broadwell)
Asus says one thing, and yet Intel documentation says another.

Just got a link-back on ROG site and need to clarify any misunderstanding.

Devil's Canyon = upcoming K series CPU, not the Pentium Anniversary Edition. They are two different things.
The ROG article does not expressly state Z87 supports Devil's Canyon, and Intel has yet to confirm the details of this CPU and ASUS cannot comment until Intel does.

Regarding USB BIOS Flashback: you do not need a CPU at all. You just need ATX power and FAT32 formatted USB drive plugged into the appropriate port (see the manual), then press the button on the rear IO.

All ROG Z97 motherboards feature USB BIOS Flashback.
