My System Specs

Default Haswell E

Take a look..Intel Haswell-E Engineering Sample With 8 Cores and 3 GHz Clock Speed Spotted - Features 140W TDP and 2133 MHz DDR4 Memory It's going to be a costly upgrade. I thought it would drop into my X79,but that won't happen. I'm upgrading regardless.

I'll probably move to Haswell E.. depends on how the mainstream CPUs/chipset at the time compare.

Honestly don't see a reason to upgrade. Hope to stick w/ Haswell until they release boards w/ M.2 slots w/ enough bandwidth.

Of all people, I expected you to buy Haswell-E

with just getting my 4930K and a 4770K ordered I'm pretty sure I'll be skipping this. Not feeling too hurt but it'll still be cool to see what they can do.

I'm also with lowfat with wanting the M.2 Slots

Pretty sure that 8core will be on the painful side of $1000 and I'd like to see what the X99 platform has to really offer when they start getting them on boards.

Ditto, its an upgrade that will seriously open up the potential for speed and number crunching.
Only concern will be heat, the last Haswell's were AMD hot.

Start saving. read the reviews, collect info, surmise, then decide.. I am sure Asus will have an amazing ROG Rampage Extreme 5 to go with this.... so lets do some basic math
1) One Core i7 5960X.......................... $1200.00
2) One Asus ROG mobo.......................... $500.00
3) basic 32 Gig DDR4 RAM kit @ 2133Mhz $ 500.00
OS of choice migrate or new $ 200.00

So basically $2500.00.. that should futureproof you for 5 years
Cheers

That is what I was looking at for an upgrade from my 2600k, but since I had issues with it and ended up just getting the 4770k, I don't know if I will end up going for it. Well then again if it is pushed to late 2014/early 2015 then I might just jump on it.

Agree, certainly wouldnt ditch an X79 platform with a 3930K running at 4.8- 4.9 Ghz right away...need to see what the benefits are going to be for X99 Chipset....also unless you get the Xtreme Chip you wont get 8 Cores / 16 Threads and the awesome looking 20 MB Cache......
I'll likely go for it...but wont be an early adopter

Yeah I'll wait for ddr4 to become mainstream earth bound prices then it'll be time to upgrade. And turn this 4960x into a file server.

As mush as the Idea of HASWELL-E excites me... I have a Spare X79 Board. Potential DDR4 costs make me think that I may be better off building it on a 'budget' (as I am pondering a 2nd PC). But that's me - I also have my Mushkin DDR3 running @ 2400MHz. I picked up 4X4GB for $150 shipped when the prices bottomed out. The Ram is rated at 2400 - so its SORT OF disappointing to not be able to OC it in a sense, but I dare not complain about my ram not running faster that 2400MHz
