I was surprised to see that as well. I guess Intel is trying to move a lot of us Z77/88 people over to the Extreme side by offering a fully unlocked 4820K

I think I am still going to go with Hasell/Z87. X79 is such an "old" chipset. Great review SKY!

Yea but really what will you miss? As long as a board has 2 USB3 and 2 SATA3 ports I don't really care.. I went 3770k over Haswell due to the heat...
wanna see what the 4820k can do now...

If it's much better (or slightly better with lower heat) I'll have a lil bit of remorse but if not then I've save a couple of hundred on the build (not that it's been a cheap build)

I know you're into Silence, have you considered the Swiftech h320..seen they are also in Stock at NCIX ;) Would fit nicely in the top of a 900D

...Now this is what I'm talking about...thanks Firex ROG for the pic...but is it representative

I plan on higher overclocks with the IB-E. I ordered the Swiftech H220 and it's in transit right now. The H220 will fit VERY nicely in my Air 540. I think it's a better case all round. Will post all info after it's all hooked up. Thanks.

No reason to get a 4960x as the 3960x is great but a new board has to be in many of our futures haha

I have the H220 cooler and I'm surprised at how big it is. The tubes are like a couple of fire hoses. It's not installed yet,but I'll report as soon as it's all done. The only thing I need to finish it off is the IB-E 4930K.

Meh.

I learned my lesson paying the "knucklehead tax" buying the six core 990X and then watching the "great multithreaded future" never happen.

I'm still using that cpu in my main box but Iwould have been just as happy with a $300 2600K at the time.

Were I buying today, a 4770K would be the choice. $350 and usually equal or greater than this $1000 chip is an easy choice for me.

Still only two native SATA6 ports and no native USB 3.0.
