ASUS Z87 Maximus VI Hero Review Comment Thread
Combining price and performance isn't something ASUS' ROG motherboards are known for but the Maximus VI Hero bucks that trend by delivering an incredible array of features at a lower than expected cost.

man, the most exciting thing about haswell is the new platform it brought with it...
i'd love to have an 1155 board with 6 native sata 6gbps ports.
You have that many SSD's ? cos hdd's don't give a crap. :P
Great review, as always! Thx for your clarification on Cache settings for OC...nice addition.
I own this board and I have to say, the onboard sound is superior to the one on my P8P67 DELUXE, that's for sure. Nice upgrade for me. Now, I'm trying to find how to access "sonic radar". Can't see it, either as a specific download or in the Realtek HD audio panel.
I love the "direct BIOS" function, that reboots the board and goes directly to the BIOS by a single mouse click on the desktop...good.
Running my 4770k at 4.5GHz 1.27 V manual mode now (cache ratio at 35...gotta work on that!), stability testing.. CPU-Z reports 1.28 volts? Maybe the 0.07 increment is registering but the board doesn't have the granularity in the voltage dept to provide this number? During AIDA stress test, the CPU-Z reading occasionally goes up to 1.296V...that a little high for my taste, but temps are maxed out at 76 deg. C MAX....
I got my CPU POWER PHASE set to EXTREME, maybe that's what causes it too...
Hey Delavan, I think I got Sonic Radar direct from ASUS. Ill try and get a link for you.
It's weird, as it's advertized (sonic radar), yet not available as a DL on their driver page. I found gamefirst II with is some sort of network prioritization system and installed it..seems complex. Any testing on the utility of it?
Now, a few people wonder if this app SONIC RADAR (an overlay/noise direction locator with possible benefits to the gamer using it) could be seen by punkbuster as a hack or something.
@ Delavan. I think Punkbuster sometimes sees a gamer as a hack or something. That software sucks.
@ElDonko, "we are now using a RETAIL CPU" Thank-You! BTW, what revision is the board tested?
I'm thinking I might have to buy one of these for my build. Thanks for another great review.
I'd like to know if the HDMI outputs Lineal PCM 7.1 from the supremeFX. We all know SPDIF and optical coax is compressed audio.
Yeah not sure what the deal with Sonic Radar is. I believe I got it direct from ASUS however it is not on the DL site. I sent them an email asking for clarification.
Sonic Radar can be seen as a "cheat", there are lots of gaming threads about it. Some servers allow it, some dont.
GameFirst II is pretty handy. It allows you to prioritize your network traffic for whatever you want. If you want your games to always have priority over everything you can set that up.
