Default AMD Vishera - ECC Support?

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if AMD Vishera chips, specifically FX-8350, supports registered ECC RAM?
I see many people using unregistered ECC, but would like to know about registered :)

Thanks!

ECC is for the server chips, the Opterons, Vishera works with the unregistered. Anyway the ECC memory support depends on the chipset too. There are some AMD mobos, especially the workstation/server type that accept both, but not in the same time, either, or.

It will be used on a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, which I have seen reports from other forums that this combination works with unregistered ECC RAM.

Verification here:
Gigabyte 990FX-UD3 and ECC Works fine! - [H]ard|Forum

I should add that apparently not even the Gigabyte manual mentions that the board can support ECC

Look into the AM3+ server boards if you have a chip you want to use. It may allow you to do what you want... its all web services targeted so the boards are decently priced.

No CPU or board, so I am free to go Intel and pay a huge premium, or cheap out and spend $ on a power hungry AMD setup.

Uncertain at this time, since I'm still ultimately undecided about my storage setup... not sure if I want to have a dedicated OpenIndiana/ZFS machine, or keep everything all-in-one like how I have it now (HTPC/Plex server/file server/web server).

This combo would be replacing the guts of my TAMS Supermicro H8DME 24-bay setup.
