Default CPU Dilemma - Need help deciding

So I have a bit of a dilemma on my brain here. Where to begin. I recently went through a major pc overhaul/downgrade/sidegrade and sold my custom loop and gtx 670.

I have 2 awesome cpu's here but I'm not sure which to keep. I have i5 2500k which will do 5.0 on a closed loop system. I also have a 3770k which will do 4.8(possibly higher) on a custom loop, which I no longer have. I am running a little H60 currently. The 3770k is a hot little bugger and I'm sure I cannot push it very high without a delid(which I am scared to attempt).

I really only use my PC for gaming and HWC and the likes. I mainly only play Starcraft 2, League of Legends and XCOM Enemy Unknown. I own BF3 but don't play it often. I also own a bunch of other undemanding titles.

I plan to not upgrade my rig for at least 18 months and I want to have the option of playing anything my heart desires @ 1080p with some nice eye candy for the next 18 months.

Will the 3770k benefit me in gaming at all from the 2500k? Which one should I keep and which one should I sell? Help me decide please HWC. My ep33n is screaming to keep the 3770k but I feel it is unnecessary and should probably just use the 2500k but I'm so unsure. I hear some people say new games use hyperthreading and I hear some people say no games use more than 4 cores.

Cheers!

Considering the 2500k is perfectly fine for the games you listed, and you can clock it higher, and you can get more moolah for selling the 3770k .. I'd just stick with the 2500k.

HT still has 4 cores being used. Depends on how efficient said cores are used. I doubt games within the next year will really use multithreading to a point where the CPU is going to be your bottleneck.

I think you need a 3930K! Luckily I have one listed on my bst thread lol. 2500K is more than enough for a few years to come.

Thanks YFG. I think it might be JUST A TAD BIT overkill for my needs hahaha.

Looks like I will be selling the 3770k. I just don't have the balls/wallet to attempt a delid and fail. Not to mention coollaboratory liquid pro not easy to come by in Canada.

older thread but I would keep the 3770, always nice to have the HT there for if/when needed

Keep the 3770K. No need to delid. That thing is one hell of a good CPU!

Already sold the 3770k. I notice absolutely no difference in gaming on the 2500k even in BF3 64 player.

If hyperthreading or higher than 4 core cpu's are used in gaming I will buy one in 12-18 months if need be.
