Default AMD Claims Leadership with New APU Announcements at Computex 2013

AMD announced new versions of its APU series called Richland and gave the first public demonstration of its upcoming Kaveri processor at its Computex 2013 keynote Wednesday morning in Taipei.

AMD’s APU efforts began in 2011 with the launch of Llano, which was followed up with Trinity’s launch around this time last year. Richland is the successor to Trinity, and will be followed up by Kaveri which is expected sometime early next year.

I wouldn't say they can 'claim leadership' currently, but they're definitely miles ahead of where they were a couple of years ago. They have some interesting products that might make waves in the portable business.

I cant wait to see this go head to head with Intel's Iris Pro. That will be a popcorn worthy event!

Really glad to see AMD continue to innovate. Now all that have to do is start making enthusiast grade CPUs again!

Iris Pro is so expensive in comparison though, it costs roughly triple what an A10-6800k would cost! $150 vs. $450-650.

Yup and I bet it will be a damn close fight. Which is great for future ultrabook models. ;)

Edit...though technically an UltraBook has to run a Core Processor...but meh...symenatics. Give me a thin, lightweight 'notebook' that looks and acts like an "ultrabook" but costs 1/3rd less...is an Ultrabook in my books :P
