My System Specs

Default Anyone ever seen a mobo melt pins and the back of a CPU?

Neighbor asked me to come over said his system made a odd noise and is boot looping, looked it over no issue, then popped the CPU and the pins on the top are melted and a black spot is on the cpu, it was a P7P55D Deluxe and a i7 860 going to talk with Asus in the morning but am amazed with the damage :O

Never seen this before will post pix tomorrow

A loose piece of solder might do that. But I have never heard of something like that happening before. Pics should prove interesting.

The first thing that popped into my mind was the Foxconn socket issues on 1156. Maybe applicable?

I've seen a Tyan board do that. it was dual socket Athlon MP board. The sockets melted, and the ATX connect and coils around it. Obviously the 550w Antec Truepower attached to it was done for as well

That's not awesome, that sucks. I suppose the board/CPU is out of warranty?

What is that a dent in the top of the CPU IHS?
