My System Specs

Default The Asus m5a97 LE with an 8350..

Just built a computer...unfortunately I had to return a DOA PSU and have to wait for a new one.
Anyway, have been looking around and was wondering if anybody knows anything about the 8350 throttling with a board with a 4 pin 12v rail as oppose to an 8 pin.

My Mobo supports and looks as though it was built for a 125w CPU...I've heard rumors that there are throttling problems even at stock with these chips. Can anyone give me any clarity on this?

Also, anything wrong with the 970 chipset? or should I have gone 990fx?

970 is fine if you're doing a single video card.

More cpu power pins means a potentially more stable overclock. However, it should still work with an 8350, and should work well :)

It will support Crossfire, but NOT SLI.

Also, I believe the 2nd PCI-e slot (black) only works in X4 mode...

I guess the 2nd one does run 4X...thank you..
Plan on running crossfire (own a Sapphire 7870 XT Tahiti LE ATM). I guess I can handle the small performance blow over buying a new MoBo.

Seriously, if you're considering Crossfire at all, try selling the M5A97 LE on the BST (you could maybe get $75 shipped for it, if it's LNIB) and pick up a new M5A99X Evo for $144. That board will do Crossfire and SLI, and when running two cards, both slots will run at x8. A much better proposition, if you ask me.

Only keep the M5A97 if you're planning on never running Crossfire or SLI.

The M5A99X Evo will get you a slightly better overclock, too, as it has better power delivery (6+2 vs 4+2).

Well from what i hear there is only about a 3% blow to performance on crossfire with this board...I guess the 4x PCI e slot has to go through the south bridge increasing latency on top of the bandwidth blow...but I'm not gunna stress it. Xfire was just something I might do in the future.
Was more worried about my 8350 throttling at stock...thats a scary possibility.
