Prime95 on i5

Hi guys,

Ive started OC my 3570k and now i need to start stress testing, ive read mixed opinions whether prime should be used or not. What are you guys using? I also tried aida64 and that seem to work well.

LinX. LinX - A simple Linpack interface Max. memory, 5 runs. Then folding SMP. That'll tell you if your OC is stable.

Like to see how you do with your set up for OCing, as I just bought same mobo as you and CPU as well. What are you using to cool the cpu Air or Watercooling.
What 3.0Charlie said will work well, use the same when I did my overclocking on my rig now to find the sweet spot.

Thanks for the link 3.0, I did have a look there earlier but I was more curious to hear what peoples take is on prime95. Should it be avoided all together on these new chipsets?

yycraven, I'll keep you posted. So far I've only done 4.2GHz, I don't plan on pushing the limits too much since I'm just starting off. For cooling I'm using a 212 Evo with one fan pulling air in. I'm relying on my exhaust fan on my chasis for now. I may add a second at some point.

On my Core i5 2500k Prime Blend will find errors faster than Linpack despite generating lower temperatures. Of course this is motherboard and CPU dependent - with my other motherboard (Intel DP67DE), I was bottlenecked by the board itself, so Linpack would find my throttling point faster than Prime95.

When I did my OC run, I did Linpack + MSI Kombustor to check thermals for about 1.5 hours, then Prime Blend for >8 hours for stability. After that, BOINC / F@H has been acting as a "constant" stability test.
