MB to replace ASUS P8Z68D
 

My ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe is refusing to POST (VGA LED lit and Q-code 06 if anyone has magic fix). I'd like to get a replacement board while I try to fix it. It's been a while since i've kept up with motherboards, so I'd like suggestions on what would be a good deal.

Stuff the new board needs to take:

i7 2600k
Koolance CPU-370 waterblock (closed loop)
4x4GB 1600 MHz ram
6970 x2
PCI wifi card
OCZ Vertex 2
misc SATA
OCZ Z1000M PSU

The case size is 1 slot taller than the current board.

or get a MSI Z77A-GD55 and sell the Asus when it come back from RMA, MSI is so advance compare to non ROG board, I can even control and OC the board from my Android or Iphone.

if you cant think of any physical damage sometimes unplugging power removing battery and shorting the battery connections for a bit will give your bios a solid reset.

but if something else is a miss like pop caps or physical problems then ofc that wont help you.

This board is OOS wherever it's on sale! That means it's pretty good I think. Thanks.


I think something went wrong during a BIOS flash. CMOS reset (button not jumper) doesn't seem to help at all. Does taking out the battery have a different effect ?

Hoped that you removed the power cord and press start button before when reset cmos and replaced back 1-2

Q-code 06 which means "Microcode Loading"

reseat cpu (and cmos chip if is sockect mount) and RAM or try 1 stick of ram

I've given up trying to fix and am considering BIOSTAR TZ77XE3 or MSI Z77A-G43 both at $100.

I'm worried that the bottom edge connectors will be obstructed by the 2nd graphics card. Otherwise I'd get this board. Thanks again for the suggestion.

GD55 feels like more features than I really need atm. G45 has no PCI slots, which I need. I am considering a G43. Thanks.
