Could this method work a 4960X Ivy-E would lI've to make this cpu nice and chilly as I begin to Oc it to least 4.5Ghz.

Don't think its worth the time or risk. My understanding is the 2011 socket CPU don't have the junky thermal paste for heat transfer like the haswell/ivy.

I got a delidded 4670k from lowfat here, and now I don't know if my temp sensor is wonky. But I have my chip @ 4.4 (with everything set to auto and power savings enabled) and idle its about 15 and haven't seen it jump over 40 yet on an h100. My place is fairly cold as I refuse to let my local hydro company gouge me on heating my apartment.

Is your apartment less than 15 degrees?

sounds like the mobo is not reporting temps correctly. At least 10C out

indeed. AFAIK those chips are soldered to the IHS.

SB-E and IVY-E have the heat spreader soldered on. To delid these CPUs is unneeded and perhaps insane
