I had not heard of that one. IMHO the method I used was so easy to perform I would not consider another method at this point.

Necro-Bump for new Haswell users!

I just did this with my new 4770k. Took 5 min. I used an exacto knife on a corner, then following advice about using a hard plastic thin card, shoved that in a corner and went all the way around the IHS. Blam! 5 min, IHS was off. 5 more min to clean everything and reapply TIM (IC7 Diamond on die and on IHS).

Idle temps went from 30c (Under WATER) to 23c @4.5ghz 1.2v
Load temps went from 91c to 77c at the same speed/volts.

Woooooow.

Damn, that's a pretty impressive improvement. :)

That is an impressive improvement. Going to push the OC more now with the temp drop, or are you happy as is?

Probably hold back right now. My 2700k was @4.5, so I'm already well above the curve on performance. Im going to pick up the CL Liquid Pro and reseat the die/ihs and the waterblock with them first.

Zoob: How many tubes should I scoop? Dont know how long this stuff lasts or how far it goes. My IC7 Diamond has lasted me years...

One tube should be fine. I have de-lidded 4 chips and still have plenty of Liquid pro to spare.

^^ Basically what Sagath said, except I used the vice method for my 4770k last year.
The temps are still pretty horrific though, might have to ditch the IHS.
Before I added a 7950 to my loop.. with EK Supremacy & feser 480 rad the water temp could be cold to the touch yet the CPU is up at 60C
Since adding a 7950.. while loading both, the 7950 can be 20-25C and the CPU pushing 80-85C.
That is with Antec Formula 7 on the GPU, CPU, and CPU IHS. As said above, dumping the IHS sounds like the only way I am going to do better.
Though in all fairness I am up at 1.4v.... Technically I do not have to run it at 4.7GHz 1.4v. but if I drop below 4.6GHz then I am no longer hitting 10.XXpts in cinebench r11.5! :<

Anyone have a non-leaky TFC 480 rad they want to get rid of?
