This afternoon I delidded my 3570k, applied Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra and then glue the IHS back to the cpu. Here is how it went

system specs:
3570k
MSI Z77A-GD55
Gskill 1600 CL9
OCZ Fatality 550W
HAF 912
NH D14
blah blah blah

here I am testing at 4.7Ghz to get a baseline temp before delidding

delidding complete. It took no more than 2 min... I am getting practiced! :)

here I am ready to reassemble the IHS. this time I have left room for ventilation... herp a derp, I forgot to do this on my 3770k yesterday.

cpu in the socket and the glue is curing

close up of the glue job... I could use less RTV by the looks of it

D14 is now installed and it is time to see how well this has worked for this cpu

temps post delid. Same 4.7Ghz as before.

You can see that the there is tangible improvements in load temperatures. I am not seeing as big of a drop in temps as I did with the 3770k although this was expected.

questions? comments?

Anyone here attempt the new hammer and vice method of delidding? I'm currently contemplating this method.

I am not here to say there is only one correct way to delid, rather I would just like to say that I had no issue using just a utility knife.

This ^

I used the utility knife method with controlled force and nitrile gloves and the results were great on my i7 3770k.

These worked great:

Stanley | Single Edge Razor Blades - 10 pack | Home Depot Canada

Also Olfa has the utility AB knife replacement blades that are sharp and thin that work well too. These are the ones I bought at Home Depot for back-up:

Welcome to Olfa

The vice method also looks good, but too much pressure (as with the knife) can be harmful. The difference is set-up time on the vice method is longer, though results are basically instantaneous, while with the blade there is very little set-up time, but will take longer afterwards.

Did you do it on a brand new processor or one that had been previously mounted under a waterblock/heatsink. I fear having mine mounted will make the razorblade process even more difficult.

I still haven't reached down to feel if my balls are still there :P

OTHER METHOD is to bring CPU lid to -20c then it should pop off eazy with wedge of thin blades

i heard it did work... you can get the plan after you destroy your chip, they said to just wait 30 days to file a claim

All three cpus that I have delidded had been previously mounted. Personally I do not see why having the cpu previously mounted will increase the difficulty of a delid.
