been on my i7 920 @ 3.8 since release (just about 4 years) and I told myself it would be the last upgrade for a while because it was such a huge breakthrough...

I was right thing is still fast today (albeit hot as balls)

The smartphone/ tablet market is where all the drive is happening these days. PCs aren't as exciting

Another side to this discussion is the fact that newer X58 motherboards do offer updated specs for Sata and USB3 so while they're expensive, it might be a worthwhile to upgrade just the motherboard.

I got 3 x58 systems all running on Asus P6x58D-Premium mainboards. i7-930, i7-960,i7-970
I can see no current reason to upgrade other then the power I would be saving. These are all 24gb rams sytems with dual sata3 ssd's, with either GTX-570, GTX-560ti 448 cuda core, or Ati Radeon HD 6970.
Yet to play the game I can't run on max, although I have not tried the latest games out this year that are supposed to push the new PCI-e v3 cards.
I'll be keeping these around for a few more years at least.

I still love my 930, though I think my PSU isn't capable of an overclock to 4GHz in combination with a GTX 580, 680W.

680 watts is MORE than enough for that I think (unless it's like a rocketfish or some crap...)

oc'd 930 and 580 might be a little pushed at full load but should be ok, I worked out my theoretical max draw from my 950 etc is about that, But I've never gone that high as that is stressing very single component to the max.

An OC'd 920 + 2X 560ti cards was pulling 600W+ through a UPS. (Or at least the UPS thought it was as it was shutting down for having a draw above it's rated 600W :) ).
