Did I just happen to miss the release of Trinity for desktop or has it actually not been released yet?

well, technically is out there, but only for OEMs like HP which already have systems on sale with Trinity. Release for the masses will be in autumn they said to allow clearing the stocks of Llano first. HP Pavilion p7-1240 is the model you want to look for. I wonder how the A10 will fare up against a sandy or ivy bridge chip which is technically an "apu".

It'll beat the snot out of Intel's integrated graphics, but will fall short when it comes to CPU focused tasks...It's basically just an improvement over Llano, not a major revolution.

It'll make a great platform if you want a Very SFF PC (say in your living room) and won't have room for a discrete GPU. It should game adequately.

If you DO have room for a discrete GPU however, the best bet is a low power Intel I3 and a small GPU such as a 7750.
