Is it worth upgrading to Intel Mobile i7-2640M for Gaming?
 

Hi guys. I have a HP Elitebook 8460p with a i5-2540. I mainly use the laptop for gaming and I was advised to upgrade to this:

Intel SR03R - 3.50Ghz 5GT/s 4MB Intel Core i7-2640M Dual Core CPU Processor

My budget is around $400-450 for a CPU :punk:so that one fits the budget. (I'll be selling the one I have once I get the new one). So my question is, would this model be the ideal upgrade or is there another model to consider? That place has a few models, but I was considering this one based on the specs and price. Any suggestions? Help would be appreciated. Thanks guys! :thumb:

I didnt dig too deep but whats the clock speed bump (assuming there is one) and is there any diff? IE: HT?

It really depends on what games you play, the performance difference is about 1000~ in cinebench give or take, and in my opinion, that is just not worth the $400.

Especially in gaming, the synthetic performance difference will be menial in an actual real world game performance.
