My System Specs

Well just to let you know, doing 720p mkv playback of an episode of House my wattage meter is saying the E350 is using between 21-24W. I can try a 1080p playback once my server is up and running in a day or two if you're interested in that load wattage use.

Mind you the rest of the system consists of 4GB of ram, a 40GB SSD and a 80 or is it 60mm fan to give a little bit of air intake.

Don't put yourself though any trouble! Using this setup for a HTPC is sort of a backup plan incase I chicken out on the carputer. My current HTPC does just fine, an E6300 w/4670 GFX but I want to get a NAS going as I've got way too many drives in that case. So I thought if I take that hardware to run the NAS and the carputer doesn't pan out I can use it for a fully passive, no moving parts PC. #1 I want the silence as I'm really into audio and #2 it would be a novelty having a no moving parts PC. I can't see why ~20W can't be handled passively - given enough breathing room.

Well just to give you an idea, the E350 I have that has the fan installed in the heatsink you cannot hear at all, so noise won't be an issue at all for that.

Ended up getting a e350, the Asus E35M1-Pro. It's the uATX version which I like better as I have more options for cards if ever required and I don't need to be that frugal with space. Also I found them at TD for $52 (after a $20 MIR) so I got 2. If they end up sucking for what I'm doing I'll still find some use for them. However the carputer crowd seems confident an e350 will be just fine, and the same with the HTPC crowd. Now to track down some cheap RAM and SSDs.
