Default Bulldozer for home server machine? (Multiple VM's)

Hey Guys,

I have a friend who is planning on studying for his MCITP tests and needs a machine that can run multiple VM's.

I was thinking an 8 core Bulldozer system with 16GB ram? He has a very tight budget and anything would be an upgrade from his e6700 w/ 2GB ram....

Any thoughts?

I might recommend that but I'm pretty sure a 3770k I7 with that much ram would do the job better for not that much more

If the budget is tight, then the 8 core BD is probably the only way to go. A used z68/p67/2600k is also another option perhaps.

While a disappointment, especially on the desktop, the bUlldozer does well in a virtualized environment. Might not be the fastest in the world but it will get the job done.
