Default New Xeon vs Q6600
As a few of you have gathered I'm in the middle of ordering parts for my new system. As luck would have it I haven't ordered the MoBo or CPU yet, so I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to got with the new Xeon for an extra $30 or so over the Q6600. I really like the fact that it will use less power, that's always a good thing. Are there any other benefits or drawbacks of going with the 45nm Xeon?

Spend the extra $30.

the 45nm xeons will run cooler and the clock is higher (I assume you mean the 3320 or the 3350), definitely worth the $. as well, the 45nms seem to be better overclockers. I can tell you more if you specify exactly which you mean.

I was talking about the X3220 which is on for $309.99 at NCIX. I figure as long as I can get to 3GHz on air I will be happy. I'm sure the extra cache on the Xeon will help in the overall performance of the chip.

The X3220 is the same gen as the Q6600, and they both have 8MB of cache. The newer 45nm quad core Xeon is the X3350, which has 12MB of cache.

I was wondering why it was so cheap, I guess it would help if I had the right processor.
