My System Specs

Default What is up with my i7 920??

Okay so i bought my build 3-4 years ago, and my 920 has served me well since now. Its been dummy overclocked to 3.2GHz since the day i bought it. I have a Noctua NH-U12P air cooler in a pull method (since my motherboard doesnt give me enough room for a push/pull config). All of a sudden, im getting retarded temperatures at IDLE... I have applied and re-applied thermal paste but no difference. I cleaned the heatsink for dust and i HAVE to keep the window open for cold air to flow into the case or i get a restart everytime.

2 pics, one at IDLE, one playing BF3

heres a link to your system bios as well as instructions on how to install the update, I myself have never owned or supported EVGA (work for a ASUS repair Center) but I am sure it will be fairly straight fwd

Wow thats odd, sounds to me like your TIM dried out, or maybe even heatpipes are losing there efficiency, I am running an EVGA X8 SLI Micro, my temps are much lower, but also cooling with a 360mm RAD, also I had a really old bios on this board when I bought it, and my temps never changed when the bios was updated. I would toss a new cooler on if you have a spare and see if your cooler is dying(heatpipes do wear out). Pulling the CPU couldn't hurt to try also.

I'm wondering if maybe the heatpipes didn't lose their integrity and all of the gas has leaked out......
