Do the VRMs have temp reporting sensors?

I'm rather pleased I could use my old cooler on this cpu, looks like the 1156 pattern stayed the same with the 1155, I'm getting idle temps between the cores of 21-28C now as I type with Steam and streaming radio going, just using the newest Coretemp without any offsets, could that be right?
I guess I could compare to the bios(?)

See this screen of CoreTemp, the frequency is 99.99x16, but I've seen forums where it's x120 or higher, is that just due to overclocking? The thread didn't say he oc'ed, so I just assume. That max temp was after some Borderlands 2.

How tight do you guys pull down those screws that hold big heatsinks thru the mobo?

Your core temps look good. For comparison sake, my 3770k at 4.5GHZ is about 22-30 degrees at idle. You usually just need to tighten the screws until they are good and snug. You dont want to risk stripping screws or flexing the pcb too much.

Just out of curiosity, what motherboard did you end up getting? I didn't catch which one you settled on in the previous posts. There may be a utility from the manufacturer that shows vrm temps. (something along the line of 'thermal radar' for ASUS sabertooth boards)

I got this board ASRock > Z77 Pro3 I can't figure out which way to plug the HDD access light onto the board, tried a few different ways but no luck, it wont light at all, for either the SSD or HDD.

The mobo was pretty curved even before I put on the cooler, I should have snapped a pic, it looked rather odd.

I've been up and running for a few days now, no problems I can see, but have a look at my device manager, am I missing out on any performance by not installing any drivers off the mainboard cd? Assuming that's what's causing the ! marks.

Yep you're probably missing the chipset driver and USB 3.0 driver. Don't use the CD, go straight from the motherboard's web page (the one you linked 2 posts up).

So is the chipset this one?
3/30/2012 Windows® 7 64bit
53.23MB Intel Management Engine driver ver:8.0.3.1427
or is it the INF driver?

from ASRock > Z77 Pro3
