I'm trying to help a buddy out with a rig. He's going to be a casual user who wants to game from time to time and will probably keep the machine for several years. I would help him find a nice stable 24/7 mild OC and leave it like that for him. I want a bit of future-proofing for him but not going overboard on price. I think I have a good balance here with these components....but any comments, suggestions would be great.

I would really, really stay away from the ASrock motherboard. Go with a Gigabyte P35-DS3L, which is about the same price, maybe even cheaper.

I would downgrade the CPU a notch or two and upgrade the GPU with the savings. No casual user needs a Quad, they are just nice to have. That 9600GT will get old much faster than a good C2D.

Yes, agreed. Put a Xeon E3110 in there! Should be about $219 at most. The Videocard is good, but go for a 8800GTS 512mb or a 8800GT

Yeah...it's a balancing act I guess....he's really not going to need the quad...but he was looking at some Phenom 9500 and 9600 packages, so I threw the quad in there. I think he could get away with an E4500...that will go to 3.0 GHz no problem.

Looks fine, ditch the Quad and the 9600GT for a C2D (E4500 is a good choice) and a 8800GT - and please, pretty please get a HSF...

Swapped out Quad for E4500 and bumped up to an 8800 GT....
