My System Specs

Cool Intel Core i7 3820 Vs. Intel Core i7 2600K

I'm not an overclocker.

What would you be using it for?

Also, if you're not overclocking, you would be better to compare with the 2600 non K

I have both in my house and both are great systems. I have the 3820 and my gf uses a computer built on a 2600k but I think we need a bit more information before we can give you a clear answer, are you just gaming? Will you need more then 16GB of ram? More then two SLI/Crossfire GPU's? There are certain area's where x79 shines but for most people a z68 board with a 2600k is all they need.

AnandTech - Bench - CPU

Hope this helps, As above me in some apps it runs better 3820 but really there pretty close.

dlactin2408 has it right.

They are very similar processors so it's a question of doing tri/quad sli/xfire, and how much memory you would like. Also the quad memory channel will have an effect on some aps.

If you will use 3 or 4 way SLI/XFire, and/or use applications that can take advantage of quad channel memory (if you don't know, then you probably don't), then go for the 3820. For all other cases go for the 2600 (non K is fine if you have no intentions of overclocking).

Oh wow, this is interesting! I am still thinking of waiting for the 3770k.
