xeon vs consumer?
so xeons are server grade processors.
are they consumer grade processor that go through extra testing and verification and stuff?
also, what would happen if i put a xeon into a normal consumer mobo? (like a p8h67)
they supposed to be better
but lol the xeons i've had were not better than most
not worth the xtra cost;)

There are a couple reasons why server grade cpus are more costly.
-able to use ECC memory
-able to be used with other processors
-usually better binned for being able to handle 24/7 use
-usually has lower power consumption than it's consumer counterpart(sometimes due to being underclocked for reliability)
-longer guaranteed availability
-longer warranty and better RMA service
Of course this doesn't always apply but that's generally why server class cpus are priced higher.
the last post above mine nailed it pretty decent. Think of it like a professional GPU, a desktop user has virtually no need of it, however, there will be certain extents, example, one of EVGA massive motherboards that support dual cpu use, they have to use Xeons due to the extra links they provide, regular "consumer" cpus do not have enough QPI links to support dual cpu usage.
Beyond that, simple tighter control over voltages, binning, error fixing and such, but its costs ALOT more for something comparable to a consumer grade such as i7 960 or i7 2500k vs thier direct Xeon counterparts, less stringent binning way less pricey :)
