FYI,

If you have the first revision of 965, you wont be able to OC to 3.9+. I had the first revision hence i was stuck to 3.8 Ghz and no more.

While true OCing is all a gamble I have heard some cases where c3 revisions didn't like to OC past 3.8 either however this is rare. I have also heard of people hitting 4ghz with c2 revisions but that's also rare.

965 is a superb cpu.I had same C3 Black edition.it won't bottleneck your game in stock settings .
