Others have summed it up real well.

From my own experiences with a 955BE it really doesnt hold me back at all, the x6 are better overall.

Not that many games benefit from the extra performance, the ones that seem to are already in the high fram rates to begin with, so having an extra 10fps when you are already 110+ is not making much of any difference really.

I would base it on price, your needs, as well as, either way, I would get a decent cooler such as coolermaster hyper 212+ with push/pull of the stock fan I would get a decent motherboard, for AMD wise M5A99X EVO or Intel ASUS P8Z68-V and the chip, I would also recomend the 1090T and overclock it a bit, is just as fast as the 1100T and you save yourself some $.

With the BE chips, it is quite easy to do, you can even lock the voltages down if you want to make sure you are seeing the fastest it can get with stock voltages.

Make sure to get ddr3 1600 class ram at 9,9,9,24 or tighter timings, and for AMD run the cpu/nb at 2400 or faster to take advantage of the 1600 speed ram.

A choice you have to make, there are games that see advantage of the 2500/2600 chips, but alot of those games are playing almost as fast on the AMD chips, neither are unplayable at al even when the Intel chip pulls ahead somewhat. So I would base it on price, then I would say screw it and support AMD anyways :)

I would recommend waiting for the FX 8170 over buying an 1100t

Then he would have to wait for windows 8 as well to take full advantage of the bulldozer architecture.
