My System Specs

Default

I use to always think AMD was they way to go, but now running my Intel I will not go back. For a motherboard I like my Asus P5K its a great OCer and stable.
don't get me wrong the GA P35 DS3L is a great motherboard as well great bang for the buck.
Video cards well you have good choice now, my BFG 8800GT OC 512MB is a great card. I would buy one of those.

thats my two cents.

i'd throw in a decent aftermarket heatsink/fan... you say your not into overclocking, but when you see how easy it is to oc that q6600 to 3.0-3.4 stable, and the performance gain while doing it you might change your mind.

And even if he doesn't want to spend much on a heatsink the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is much better then the stock cooler and is only ~$25. Although I would recommend the Zalman CNPS9700 or the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme.

Default Final list

I have looked at several fans as well for cooling, now just a few more items and it'll be ready to buy!

This is more like what I'd get- you're better off getting onwe 8800GT than two of those video cards- and you definitely shouldn't get that PSU- pretty much anything else but- it's very bad. Click on the links to get the actual prices which are lower than shown below- these items are mostly all on sale at direct canada.

The cooler master 690 is a good, large case as well- you can also try your build at NCIX- they price-match during checkout (just enter urls for cheaper listings) and you can combine their sale prices with everyone else's to get a great deal.

The antec i listed is a pretty decent case and has plenty of fan power included

Corsair VX550W 550W ATX 12V 41A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM FanYes $84.00

Asus P5K-E/WIFI-AP Atx LGA775 P35 DDR2 1333FSB 2PCI-E16 3PCI 2PCI-E1 SATA2 Sound Wlan Motherboard This might not be the best motherboard- probably a P35-DS3x http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...cture=Gigabyte would be better value- only 100 bucks an da great board

So all that is just over $940....can't beat that I don't think. Thanks a lot for your help!! This is a great site. Glad to be here.
Should I bother with 4gb of memory? I am only running XP and not sure if I will gain the full benefit of 4gigs.

Well- if it's not any more expensive that 2 then go for it- XP and Vista 32 bit versions have about 4GB memory address (max) which gets used by video memory and RAM so if you have a 512MB video card, You will still be able to use more than 3/4 of your 4GB of ram.

Good to have you aboard- be sure to post some pics once you get it built
