My System Specs

Default it would seem my computer is bottlenecking

So i have been seeing some lower fps and performance than i would expect (i run 3x1 eyefinity @ 5040x1050, which yes i realize does require a lot of video horsepower). i have tried some different monitoring software and it all shows that my cpu is running 90-100% and my video is running around 50-60% or less (depending on the game i have to turn down settings to around med).

I have been considering upgrading the board, cpu, and ram but i am low on cash due to truck improvements so i am hoping that a higher end 775 quad core would help with this? my specs are below.

intel e8400 @ 4.0 ghz on artic cooling freezer pro 7
6 gb ddr2 1066
asus p5e deluxe (x48)
xfx 5870 1 gb (non reference) and xfx 5850 black 1 gb (reference) in crossfire-x
main hd is a 500 gb WD black
3x 22" samsung b2240

thx
James

Yeah I wouldn't sink money into 775 anymore. Time to upgrade!

so an overclocked q6600 or better wont help much hey? I was afraid i wasnt going to get much better than i have.

maybe boxing day will offer a good deal for an upgrade. What would be a good cpu to get (keeping in mind i would like to run a board with true dual pci e x16 slots like my current one).

Yep, that system/architecture is bottlenecking, it was never really designed for eyefinity/surround as it never existed until much later in its life cycle. You're either going to have to deal with the lower frames or upgrade your system.

I have to agree with others. 775 is outdated and I would not put any money towards it over what you have now. You are in need of an upgrade to a 2500k/2600k build. I would suggest saving money until you can do the upgrade right. A better 775 quad will help, but it won't eliminate your bottleneck.

A Q9x00 series would be a viable upgrade that would add some good help. That Q8400 has meager L2 cache and that is the real bottleneck.

You guys and your upgrading to the latest crap as soon as it comes out. S775 is still very viable. 99% of what most people in the world do on computers can be done just fine on S775. I know most will not agree, but you are just guessing if you think otherwise.

Yes, however eyefinity happens to be one of those 1% things that require more horsepower from the processor and can get bottle necked by it (hence his own problem).

L2 cache isn't the only bottleneck really, the architecture itself was not designed to run eyefinity/surround without bottle necking it. The slower RAM (DDR2) is another thing that will cause the the system to slow down. Remember, he's gaming on 3 monitors, that puts a lot more stress on a system then just one monitor.

either get a q9550 or a q9650 for around 130-175$
you should be able to do 4.0 on air with a good heatsink

if you got more $ get a 2500k + board gonna cost ya around 400-450$
