I would say no, what makes you think you're getting a bottleneck?

Reviews I have read with any "good" quad intel or not show very very few games where a 2600K or 980X pull far away from say a Phenom II x4 940 or a Phenom II x6 1055t at stock clocks mind you. So yes there may be a performance benefit from the faster chips, but very few games show it. The motherboard/gpu used tend to show more difference in all reality. The chips Phenom II x4/x6 are no slouches, as long as they are not pushed to do things they are not good at doing say crossfire X 4x6970 or quad sli 580 3gb, then yes there might be a bottleneck, but then again most cpu currently out there would be slightly bottlenecked, not becaus of the cpu but rather the motherboard attached to them.

A Phenom 965 paired with a GTX 560 Ti is good to play BF3 in very good condition.

If your Phenom II is overclocked, then no it will not be a bottleneck. Even at stock, it's barely a bottleneck. According to benchmarks, a 2500k performs no better than an overclocked Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2 generation gap).
