Default LGA2011 cpu prices.

So I was surfing the net to see about the new Intel 2011 chips
came across this price's don't look to bad really. Just like what the 1366 chip were when they came out.

Except you can't overclock the base $300 chip.

Yep, intel is going along the same grounds that they launched SB, which is only K labeled/named processors can overclock, the ones without will have locked multipliers

But even with the locked multipliers should overclock some what. Maybe not as high but still.

I never saw the base model in there at all, all I saw was the standard increased multiplier K and the completely unlocked X models.

I'm okay with that, might actually be able to save for this platform.

Now that, would be novel.

Motherboards are going to be expensive too (haven't seen one under $300 that I'd be interested in, high end very close to $500), plus 4x (or 8x) RAM kits. It's a significant investment (I know, leading edge computing always is, been there done that several times) and I personally don't think we're going to see a big performance increase over the already very powerful 2500K/2600K systems *for most uses*, including gaming. If you use applications that can actually use the added horsepower, that's great. If not, I see nothing to get excited about here. Not to mention almost 50% more power dissipation to deal with, by way of heat.
