The Crucial Ballistic 2gig PC28500 kit is on sale at NCIX right now for $84.99 + a $30.00 MIR bringing the price for 2 Gig to $54.99. I just could not pass up that price.

I figure by the time I need more than 4 gig and take the jump into a 64bit OS I will be looking at DDR3 RAM in a couple years.

Hopefully I wont experience the possible 4 stick issues this board may have.

Had a good advisor in my corner that keyed me into that deal.

... and since we're a few here with some experience on the Gigabyte boards, it should go rather easily...

Heh....

I might have mentioned to him that there were quite a few giga P35 mobos with decent OCs kicking around these boards.... I might also have mentioned that quite a few of them were 24/7 folding stable.......

Consider it done.

In fact I am going to start a new post when my gear arrives. Kinda a Nebies 1st build followed by a newbies 1st OC with lots of pics and details.

I am prepared for setbacks and hopefully finish very satisfied .

I am lucky to have you guys here to help me along especially my ol' Pal SSWilson who will be my front line coach. We will have lots of Coffee to drink and a few late nights I am sure.

The 1st bullet I have to dodge is when my wife finds out how much I spent this week. :help:

Default wow

wow there really is quite the asus vs gigabyte vibe here....seems like gigabyte is winning the support.

- but the black on the asus boards looks so good, plus theyve had a few good boards recently...very close.

Nice deal on the mem BTW

Why is it always like that? LOL. My wife doesn't even let me handle our money anymore OR let me come close to a computer store! Wonder why?

Anyways....I think we should make a prediction on this one!

I'm saying:

CPU : 4.2GHz Stable and benchable on air! Perhaps at 1.45V??
RAM : 1:1 (FSB 467MHz * 9) = 934 MHz @ 5-4-4-8 @ 2.1V
RAM : 1:1 (FSB 525MHz * 8) = 1050 MHz @ 5-4-4-10 @ 2.2v

Let's all do this and see where CasheKicker is gonna end!

I'll give you that....

The giga boards have to be the ugliest thing ever put out, and to top it off, I suspect there might be a couple of noctua fans going onto a tru in the near future just in case the pastel colours of the giga board aren't quite tacky enough..... :)

General consensus between intel chipset boards seems to be fairly even between the giga p35 boards and the ASUS boards. Folks have had good luck OCing with both, but you can't beat the price point on the lower end Giga boards.
