Default Amd Phenom we're losing 10%to 20% power

I've known about this for some time now thats why when I needed a new processor and I'm a devout AMD fan I went out and bought a Athlon 64 x2 6400+ rather than buy a Phenom or any Quad from AMD. I still can't figure out why nobody knows anything about this TLB errata problem with AMD's Quad cores and how everybody is losing approximately 10% to 20% of the total processor power when they patch each and every one of them. Here's a site that explains it alright, The Tech Report, article Phenom TLB patch benchmarked. Apparantly the Phenom 9600 when patched is approx. equal to my Athlon 64 x2 6400+ so if I were you and was thinking about buying an Opteron or a Phenom Quad I would put it off at least until Stepping B3 is out. Don't take me to my word, check it out yourself.

The TLB errata is fairly well documented at this point. And you can disable the fix with little risk, as long as you're not using virtualization software. B3 steppings are presently expected in a few months. Subject to change, of course.

as an added thought to consider...an X2 won't have the multi-threading capabilities of a Phenom. 4 cores is superior to 2 cores, even if they're only performing at the X2's level.

Default Make a very good point

Well now I wish I would have talked to a few more people before I went out and purchased an x2 processor when I could have had a Quad which would have been a lot better than what I have and a heck of a lot better than what they're saying in them articles I read. Maybe I'll sell this on eBay since I have the Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe WIFI-Ap mobo which is made for Quad core anyway. Anyone know of someone who would like to buy a slightly used Athlon 64 x2 6400+ Am2
