Default Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 ?

hello im new to the forum and dont really know that much about computers, i built a few over the years but thats about it anyhow,

im wondering what processor to upgrade to for future games such as BF3 and MW3
my current processor is the intel 2 duo e8400 e0 stepping chip and was considering upgrading to the
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770

which the highest end of my 775 socket, would you advise it and say it was worth the money and would get alot more preformance for these future titles etc?
i didnt fancy shelling out lots of money towards a i7 or summit and having to get ram mobo etc or would this be more future proof ?

the modo is a asus extreme 2 and gfx asus 480 (which i think might be bottlenecking due to the e8400 ?)

many thanks in advance for any help as im Stuck !

Where would you be getting this processor and how much is it priced at? I know they are starting to become harder to find brand new 775 processors (high end ones)

save some $ get a used q9650 E0
most of them can do 4.2-4.4 on air

you can buy a 2600k cheaper than a qx9770

so the quad would be better then my current chip for preformance etc (mostly for gaming)

with the 2600k would i need to upgrade my psu ? or would my current one still be compatable.
because if i did upgrade to the i7 etc id have to get a bundle or something

OcUK Motherboard Bundle - Intel Core i7 2600K & Asus P8Z68-V PRO Intel Z68 Mainboard []

not sure if links are ok or not so sorry if there are not

Sandy Bridge is so much better both in optimizations (Memory and PCIE controller on Die) as well as other tweaks that make it class of its own in comparision.
I Think you should opt for that route, though what is your PSU now? If your running an old 8400 I think you will be fine with a new chip without a PSU upgrade. SO long as its a quality PSU.

you cant compare en e8400 to a 2600k its night n day
it will even stomp on th qx9770
if you had a p55 or a 1366 wouldnt make much of a difference in gaming
with a 2600k you can do 4.7-4.9 on air
mine does 5.0 on water 1.42v n 4.8 1.36v
but its boring to overclock offers no chalenge

Just make sure that when you make the switch to pick up some DDR3 ram as your older DDR2 will not fit. You are however in luck as it seems DDR3 prices have fallen to new lows, benefiting those building new systems such as yourself.
