Something I've noticed in quite a few of the builds is single sticks of mem....

I'm no expert, but AFAIK you're giving up a hell of a lot of mem bandwidth by not taking advantage of dual channel.

Probably an extra $20 or so for 2X512 sticks, but it would probably be well worth it.

At this point, I'd rather get a single 1gb stick and be able to buy a second stick in the futur, then utilise the dual-channel . Using dual channel give you about 5% max better performance.
1 stick now, another later.

This system is $25 over your budget, but kicks everything else's ass.

for another $25 you can buy an LED fan or two, a bit for your dremel and a thing of spray paint and make that case look pwnage.

i joined just to go "wtf, a 400w psu?" i had a 400w fortron, and it wouldn't power my system with a x1950xt in it.

I hate to say it, but not only should it have worked, it should be able to power more stuff than that list. I have run SLI and Crossfire with 500W PSU's with no problems.
