Default why do you still buy quad core cpus on LGA775 socket?

I see a lot of people scrambling to buy used quad core cpus on the LGA 775 platform. What is the big issue? I don't get it. Can you please explain?

A lot of quads on S775 are plenty. Most people don't need DDR3 and Core i5's. Upgrading the CPU is also a lot easier and cheaper than a whole new mobo, RAM and CPU.

ok, but what is the efficiency increase per clock, LGA 775 vs 1156 vs 1155? i guess even if is significant still does not justify the price for a new platform i guess.

The older stuff yes is a bit more power hungry than its newer counterparts but as someone said a q6600 or a q9550 is still lots of power for things out there.

A Q9550 which has 1333Mhz FSB is still wicked for gaming, and a proven overclocker for system tweakers. 3.4-3.6 is easily obtainable from the CPUs. I used to have one at 4.0Ghz, it was a great system.
Someone with a P5Q Turbo or similar motherboard, with 4G DDR2 would make an excellent base for gaming or general needs.

Makes me miss my Q9550! It's sitting at stock speeds at my parents house. Donated it to my dad after I moved out awhile back. It was a monster of a CPU. On my DFI P45 board I could clock it up to 4.1 on air. Ran it 24/7 at 4.0 and it was stable as a rock.

Probably for price. Easier to add a cpu if the rest of the architecture (DDR2 RAM/LGA 775 mobo) is working fine.

I am willing to sell a Q6600 cpu on here, locally or another site if someone seriously wants it.

I would like to move to a cooler running system and DDR3 RAM (since it's cheaper).

I was just waiting for CP to start up again since it's a better deal for everyone probably.
