Correct.

I've been doing this for over 20 years and the amount of CPUs that I have seen fail is less than I can count on 2 hands..

Yep pretty much. If you can boot into windows chances are you are good. Ive had a SB CPU die and it was the mem controller. I could POST but it would crash on windows load screen.

also, you can try programs like LinX and IBT. The linpack test on stock clocks should have no issues at all.

HAH! I had 3 straight out of the box with failed memory controllers!
