Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket Heatsink + Fan for this mobo? I'm thinking about spending about $50 max on the HSF + mx-2 paste and don't want to have to take out my mobo to mount. I got a CM 690 case I'm thinking about taking my new Q6600 to no more than 3.0GHz. Will this require a new Northbridge heatsink as well? Will I need more case fans? |

The AC7 Pro is around $20.00 and it comes with MX-1 or MX-2 paste pre-installed.

I know the AC7 can handle a lot of heat, but I don't know if it can handle that much.

A friend is using an AC7 Pro and has his E2180 OCed from 2.0 to 2.6 and temps are well under 60C under load.

I have a good idea what the AC7 can do, but we're talking about a Quad oc'ed at 3.0. I don't think an AC7 is enough under load.

Has anyone modded a ACF64P? I am thinking of getting one, lapping it, and installing it with screws and a back plate, as well as putting a better fan on it....what do you think I should expect temp wise?

John: I know the Q6600 would be a different story and it would work for a moderate OC. But I was referring to the previous post when the poster (sorry forget name) heard that the AC7 Pro was not good any OCing at all. The Ultima-90 might be a good alternative.

Sorry Jerry, didn't read that part... OP, the AC7 is a great budget cooler. But for a Q6600 at 3.0, it might be asking a little too much of it. I've been reading on Q6600 air cooling (which I don't know much), and most 3.2-3.6 oc are done with a Tuniq or a TRUE 120. A Zalman 9700 could do the trick too.
