My e8400 is running at 4.3ghz @ 486 x 9 iirc.
Nice OC!My mem at 2.2v bios as well. I'm not sure if I'm hitting the limits of my board, my memory, or my CPU. I think it's the memory currently.

What vCore are you running at?

vCore iirc is set to 1.45 and I get like 1.41 under load.

I think if I'm gonna be held back by anything its gonna be temps more than anything.

I have a Ultra 120 with a 38mm Kaze and where I am under full load I hit 71' where the "max" is 75'

Also I know I have lots of room with my memory cause I know its good upto 1100mhz :D Gotta love Team Xtreem.

Yup, tonight I'll try upping the vCore a little then to see if I can hit 460-465. I've got no problems with temps right now, maxing at 45. I have to say I'm really surprised how well this Vanquisher works for $30. But I also have 2 coolermaster 120's pulling air in, 2 more pushing air out, and a Spotcool over the mem and NB. I imagine that helps more than a bit.

Airflow is gonna help big time! My CM690 is like a wind tunnel with the fans I have in it haha.

Nice OC, Prof. Dr. Silver. Uhhh....btw, i thought i'd take you to Wolfdale school. A few pages back, you were shocked that Wolfdale SPi wasn't faster than yours. You posted a 1M time.. so i Just ran it on my E8400.. at the exact same timings as you. Keep in mind, i'm on a DS3L also.. so everything that matters..FSB/timings,etc.(OS aside)is the same. Ballistix 8500 also.

Check it:

Just playin' about the schooling.

12.641 - 11.563 = 1.078 SECONDS FASTER!!!

GJ DUDE! And hey...you learn something new everyday...thx for the lessons! This just show you how memory speeds and timings make all the difference. I don't think FSB (see SugarJ) has a big part to do with it...and on top of that you only run at 1.344V??? NICE!

Certainly shows the difference the slight refinements + more cache make on raw computing power. That seem like quite a large difference for ALL other timings and clocks being equal.

It is a very impressive improvement....though there are many apps/benches where the difference wouldn't be so great. I do find that(at same clocks) it's "snappier" than my E6600 ..even just tooling around in Windows.. i imagine that the 6MB L2 is responsible for a lot of the improvements. It's nice to know that when SSE4 enhanced apps come out... this baby should produce a really nice speedup compared to Conroe.

Default fsb wall too early....

hey guys, u all have such nice numbers with the ds3l board. But my q6600 G0 hits the fsb wall at 430 x 9. I have 4 sticks of ocz gold pc 6400. and my system is water cooled. I have my nb to +.3, fsb +.3, ram +.5 and pci locked to 100mhz. and my vcore is 1.57 in bios before the vdroop. anybody has any idea what's wrong with the board? How come I can't go over the 430?

Getting 4 sticks of OCZgold to 430MHz from the stock 400MHz maybe all you're going to get there. OC'ing 4 sticks usually will net a top FSB sooner than 2 sticks, try taking two out and see if that helps. If it does then you know it's RAM holding you back and a faster set may be in order. G.Skill has their 2x2GB 500MHz stuff pretty cheap.

I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with the board. Several suggestions: You might want to try upping the PCIe frequency.. start at 101MHz.. and try some variations(usually 117-120 is the upper safe limit). Also, try taking out 2 sticks of RAM..some boards don't clock as well with all 4 DIMMs populated, and since these boards only have 4 phase power-circuitry vs. some of the higher-end boards(6 and 8 phase)...it may be struggling a little. You didn't tell us what frequency you're running your RAM at, and the timings...as well as the vDIMM. You should drop to a lower divider if you can(1:1...2.0 in DS3L BIOS)... and loosen the timings to 5-5-5-18..and 2.1v or 2.2v(2.3..+5 is getting high). Another possible issue is the water-cooling. When you have a water-black on the CPU, there isn't any residual(spillover) airflow that will help cool the NB/SB... so if you haven't already, try some active cooling on the NB and SB... as well as your RAM(if it's getting warm). Lastly, you have to realize that not all CPU's are great overclockers... it could very-well be your CPU... quads(the best ones) top out ~470-480FSB, so i wouldn't count on getting that. If you want to find out if the chip will run a decent FSB, drop the multi to 6 or 7, and try 470ish(this will only work if your RAM will run at that speed). Oh, and if you're getting 430 with the stock multi(9)...that's 3870 MHz... not too shabby really. GL, and let us know how you make out.. and if anything helps.

Edit: I didn't see your post, Biff... i guess i was typing my novel when you posted.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I have my ram running at 5-5-5-15 at 430 fsb. I loosened it upto 5-7-7-22 and didnt see any difference so went back to 5-5-5-15. I will try with 2 sticks and see if it makes any difference.

I always have 1:1 ratio. My system won't post with anything else.

I dropped my multi to 8 and 7 but fsb wall seems the same. My north bridge is also water cooled.

I haven't tried upping the pcie frq. yet, will do that once i get my ocz 700W (had antec tp3 650 which blew due to water leakage from my gpu water block, arghhhh..). I will post results once I get the psu up and installed.

That's good, but the southbridge on the DS3L's get very hot.. so don't neglect cooling that, if possible. the fact that you can't get a higher FSB with the lower multi makes me question the RAM. I would still try taking out 2 DIMM's, and running Memtest 86+... as Biff said, your RAM is likely holding you back.
