According to Giga-byte CPU support list, E3110 supported in BIOS F7 and up, dated november sometime. You should be ok, the board I bought in January came with F7 bios.

Hi guys,

After reading the success that you guys have found with this mobo and being in the market for a brand new PC myself (my AMD 754/DFI NF3 just died), I have abused the credit card and purchased the following:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
Intel Xeon 3110
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme w/Noctua NF-P12-1300
Corsair XMS2 Dominator TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF 2X2GB DDR2-1066 CL5-5-5-15 (capable)
Extreme PC SI Radeon HD3870 Extreme XXX Edition 820Mhz Core | 512MB 2400Mhz

Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB SATA2 7200RPM
Pioneer DVR-212D DVD-RW/DVD+RW/DL SATA 2MB

Which will be installed in my existing
Coolermaster Stacker w/window and OCZ Powerstream 600 PSU

Now the last time I overclocked it was my Asus A7N8X NF2 (which I still have and use today). I have never overclocked an Intel before. I'm gonna need some help! Any suggestions as far as bios settings go for starting off. I'm such a noob, that I have no idea how dividers/straps work yet

Hopefully I will have the parts next week. Darn RAM is on backorder though!

Looks like a good build.

Transition shouldn't bee too hard. I came from a NF7-S/2500+ Barton myself. OCing doesn't differ that much, just a little less emphasis on FSB and more on MHz which is typical Intel fashion. Other than that it's the same process... baby steps, watch temps and stability test often.

Use a few different programs as two of the more popular ones, Occt and Orthos said my system was stable but Prime95 wouldn't go past 8 minutes. I think the different programs stress different components so at any given time one of those will fail. I also found running a couple simultaneously would shoe errors too. To date the most stressful I've found is Prime95 and 3DMark06 at the same time.

BTW, whats a strap?

I think a strap is a divider? Maybe another word for divider? I dunno.

Im not sure why ppl say the nb gets overly hot..I have all my voltages set @ normal in manual mode and my nb is just warm to the touch after 20 or so min of stress (with a 900mhz over clock on a E2160 and 667 ram clocked to 800 all @ normal voltage) my MB is a p35-ds3l v2 Bios is f7. Maybe haveing the voltage settings set to auto supplies too much voltage to the NB?...just a thaught. Try manual voltage with everything set to normal and see if that cools things down a lil.

Well it looks like the Corsair DDR2-1066 Dominators 2x2GB that I ordered might be on backorder for a long time. I am thinking of switching my order to the Mushkin Redlines DDR2-1000 2x2GB instead (although they might be on backorder too now).

The Dominators have a mail-in rebate which bring them down to the price of the Redlines.

Mushkin Redlines 1000
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...acture=MUSHKIN

Is this going to hamper any overclocking if I switch from the PC-8500 Dominators to the PC-8000 Redlines? I am thinking of picking up whichever kit comes in first.

Advice?

The Mushkin kit should be fine and probably won't limit your overclocking unless you want to exceed 4.5Ghz with your CPU. The Xeon 3110 has a multiplier of 9 and default FSB of 333MHz (9x333=3GHz). The Mushkin RAM is rated to work up to FSB speeds of 500MHz, allowing for 9x500 = 4.5GHz.

When you are that main BIOS screen press Ctrl+F1 and that will get into the memory settings. I just went through my manual and I didnt see it in there. I think it sets that on auto.
