My System Specs

Default Server LGA 771 CPU questions

So my office server has been running since 2006 and I was thinking of messing with it (I know it is probably a bad idea since it is working just fine). It currently has a Inventec IS2180 motherboard (at least that is what CPUID says - I haven't opened the case yet) and an Intel Xeon 5130 2 GHZ Woodcrest CPU in a LGA 771 socket. It currently has 2 x 2 GB PC2-5300 (333 Mhz) sticks of RAM in it.

So should I just add memory (and is there any difference between desktop memory and server memory)?
Change the CPU and if so to what?
Do both (because more is always better)?

the first thing you need to look at is if a cpu/ram upgrade is 100% feasable and problem free.
secondly, you want to mess with it because...? :)
thirdly,have fun!

Hmmm,

the availability of CPUs that fit a 771 socket seem to be very very small - as in I can't find any yet.

grrrr
