LLano is not based on the Bulldozer core. It's based on the Stars (K10.5/Phenom II) cores with a built in GPU. Trinity is AMD's next generation Bulldozer core with built in GPU. Trinity is what I'm really looking to. :)

NCIX.com - Buy AMD Opteron OS6128WKT8EGOWOF X8 6128 G34 12MB 2.0GHZ 115W Retail CPU - AMD - OS6128WKT8EGOWOF - in Canada
$249 at Newegg.ca

Newegg.ca - AMD Opteron 6128 Magny-Cours 2.0GHz 8 x 512KB L2 Cache 12MB L3 Cache Socket G34 115W 8-Core Server Processor OS6128WKT8EGOWOF

Basically for $1000 you can build a 16 core server. Personally I'm waiting to see how Bulldozer performs before my next CPU purchase.

Don't forget to add $500 for the motherboard, and $200 to populate the memory slots (4X $50).

Would be cool though if I had an extra $2K kicking around.... ;)

$500 for the board, $250 each processor and the $200 for the memory as you've said. So about $1200 + tax for a 16 core system. Be a perfect system for BIGADV units from Folding@Home.

The more cores, the merrier... Board-wise the best one is the Asus dual G34 for ~400$. 1gb sticks (x8) are perfect for this (running Quad-Channel per CPU). Total tally is ~1100$, with taxes and shipping.
