Default "Best Temporary" s1156 CPU

I'm needing a temporary 1156 processor until I can find money for my i7 870/ 875K. Thinking of just a little i3 but really have no idea what would be best. Only running a 5870. Both water-cooled by a 120.4 + 120.1; same loop

A little i3 530/540/550 will be pretty good. If the cpu is watercooler, you can overclock the hell out of it :d

I was thinking of that i3 540, and just clocking the living hell out of it. It's kind of like a little Honda Civic, just used to get from point 'A' to 'B' while waiting for something a little more sporty - like an i7 :)

The i3 is probably the best thing you could look at for what you want. Great CPU with big overclock headroom,.

Shouldn't expect any issues with the single 5870? No bottlenecking?

They overclock very well and I have yet to see any significant bottlenecking from an 1156 i3.

That said, the X3440 can be had for around $200, most of the seem to be able to reach the same clocks as the i7 860/870. I lucked out on mine and got 3.8 with lower than stock voltage.

530 or 540 wickeder is in stock. 540 may be easier to clock because of the odd multi rule but hey, both will be good. see whichever is in special and grab it.

No,
you will be limited with the 2 core vs a quad core, but that shouldn't be seen in game.
