My System Specs

Default Low power with lot's of power

Pretty simple. In my sig you have my server spec, I want to change some core component ( CPU/ MOBO/ GPU for something that is low power but could still be used for video compression and conversion, listening to HD content burning DVD and sharing content over network. You see the drill, it's a media server. But I want to reduce the power use of this build to maximum possible with still some power. The only thing I want from the mobo is a lot of SATA cable. I don't want add on card for more sata so 8-10 port is needed. for anything else, no need of having dual lan etc etc etc. For the CPU something fast that maybe could be OC'ed a bit and will be fast enough to do everything.
What do you suggest?

Well I'm going the Sandybridge route for my server, coming from LGA775 (65nm E6600). P8P67 PRO has 8 SATA ports which I think is the most you'll find on-board. I've yet to see a board with 10.

CPU wise, I haven't quite decided. i3 2100T is the least power (35W TDP), but I might go with the i5 2400 for a little more kick. Obviously running stock with all the power saving stuff enabled.

It's going to be a fairly expensive endeavor though, but I figure it'll last me for years to come. Maybe even get into folding again but only during the winter when the AC isn't destroying my hydro bill ;)

Few mobo have 10 SATA like GA P55-UD5 and X58 UD3R v2. 2 But well seems that sandy bridge is not for me actually. Very nice TDP but board are damn expensive for what they offer. Let's see if someone have a good idea.

Well I guess posting your budget would be a good start then...

AMD is probably your best shot if you need to save money.

I would have to JD the problem is that I am selling my 860/P55 UD5 so maybe I can get 250 for them so my budget would be around 300 I say?

I was concidering AMD more and more and it seems I will have to live with the SATA card since no board out of P55/X58 have 10X SATA which is the amount I need ahah:P
