Default Is GA-P35-DS3L sufficient for OCing E8400/E8500 Wolfdale?

Gigabyte says it will accept 45nm, but is it a good board to go with? Would one of the new Gigabyte "Power Saver" boards be better? Thanks a lot!

The few reviews that I've seen on boards with Gigabyte's Power Saver ability have found that it actually tends to reduce the maximum overclock, since the boards don't quite switch modes fast enough to handle load spikes at higher voltages.

The DS3L is a very good, cheap ($$$) board that has a lot of features BIOS-wise, allowing it to reach some very nice numbers. I should be a nice combo. I'll try that CPU, or a Q9450 on my DS3L...

My GA-965P-DS3 has my e6300 chugging along nicely @ 466x7 (~3.3GHz) with stock cooling and volts so I can't see there being a problem. They're kind of vanilla boards compared to what's out there but they're no slouch for O/Cing.

It seems that mobo manufacturers cheap out on the power regulation on lower end boards mostly. With the lowered power envelope with these 45nm chips, it should be OK for OCing in comparison to the Quads.

3.0Charlie, you have both a GA-P35-D3SL and a -D3SR? What is the difference between them? Audio DAC? I've been looking at these boards as well. If that's the only major difference I'll go with the D3SL because I have a XiFi card, and don't care about onboard sound.

Major difference is RAID, if you don't need it, just the the L.

I have the DS3R since it was offered to me for a very good price - I don't even run RAID on it. Get the DS3L, you won't regret it. Slap a nice fan on the Northbridge, and you're good to go. I use a Spot Cool just for that.

FWIW, I have the P965 version of the DS3's and had it up to 480MHz FSB tonight and I think it was my RAM holding me back. I have no doubt the P35 version would run at least as good if not better given the reputation of the P35. Fantastic boards for the price.
