Default i7-930 temps w/Hyper 212 Plus.

Hello all, I recently built my second computer and I have an i7-930 being cooled by a Hyper 212 Plus in a HAF 922 case and I was wondering if these temps were actually okay or if they're a little high:

At idle it runs about 35 C and running Prime 95 for an hour the load temps went to and stayed at 70 C. This seems a little bit high to me for not being overclocked (Except for Turboboost). So, are these temps with this cooler alright or should I redo the Thermal Paste and reseat the cooler? Thanks in advance.

Temps seem a little high for not being overclocked... I'd re-seat the cooler. I have the exact same cooler and had to re-seat it as well to get temps down... With an I7 920 @ 3.8 GHZ I was running mid 70's in an open case (after I re-seated the cooler). Initially I had applied too much thermal paste...

I had the same temp issue with my i7 920 and Hyper 212+. Be sure to apply the TIM correctly for HDT type coolers as they require a special technique. You can view on the HWC's review of the said cooler. Good luck!

I filled in the grooves on the aluminum spacers between the heatpipes then applied a thin coating to the cpu... Here's a guide using another method, haven't tried this though.

They're a little high, but are you using fans in a push pull configuration?

Well, I reseated the cooler and re-applied thermal paste as the tutorials showed for HDTs. It didn't drop my load temps by too much. I went from 70 C to 66-67 C. Still a bit high, but, dropping 3-4 degrees is a bit better, and, AS5 has a curing time, so it may drop a bit more later on.

However, I am running only one fan so, my next step is to grab another fan and run Push/Pull which will probably help out even more. (Any ideas on a good fan? I'd like to slap a couple 1850 Gentletyphoons on it, but, can't find them for a decent price or in stock. So, I'll have to look for something else.) Thanks everyone!

EDIT: Nevermind on the fans, I think I'll nab two of the S-Flex G fans and use them in a push/pull config.

If $$ is concern, the Coolermaster R4's are okay. If you have a slightly larger budget, I would consider the Gelid Wings or Scythe Flex (they're pretty quiet even at mid speed).

Well, no dice! I run Prime 95 and even after reseating the cooler and redoing the AS5 it still hits 70c load with no overclock...My temps had dropped a bit, but, now it's back to square one!

Ah well, I got lucky and actually did manage to nab two 1850 Gentle Typhoons as I was looking at some S-Flex G fans. So, I'll try running those two fans on it and see where that gets me. Worse comes to worse I'll just scrap the 212 and purchase a different cooler and maybe different paste, because right now? I'm a bit unimpressed with this 212 and AS5.

I tried a 212 with 2 fans on a 920 and turfed it immediately due to excessive noise and inadequate cooling. If you want quiet, the Noctua D14 are hard to beat.

Just another quick update. I received the two Gentle Typhoons and strapped them to the Hyper 212 Plus and even still it didn't help too much. So, I think I'm just going to scrap this cooler, buy a Megahalems, some MX-4 paste and try again.

One quick question however, are cooler backplates universal? Meaning, could I keep the hyper 212 plus backplate attached and hook up the megahalems to it? Or are the backplates cooler specific? (I'm fairly certain I know the answer to this, I just reeeally hate messing with the blasted backplates and the thought of taking everything out of my case and going from there. *laughs*)
