My System Specs

Default Is there a noticeable differents between DDR2 and DDR3 Motherboards?

I am debating on upgrading my Motherboard, not that there is anything wrong with this one .
The setup I am currently using is a Gigbyte 790-ud4p motherboard with a AMD PhenomII x4 955be with 2 x2gb 4870 videocards and a ssd drive.
Now will I notice any real difference if I where to upgrade my Motherboard and get some DDR3 ram for it ?

More the USB3 and Stata6

The whole chipset changes from DDR 2 to DDR 3 in most cases to a faster whole chipset.

Biggest thing you will get with an upgrade is TRIM support IF you go for a AMD 8 series SouthBridge mobo (eg 890fx). Right now you have the 7 series (790) so even with Windows 7 and AHCI mode...you probably arent getting TRIM. The only way to be sure would be to upgrade the mobo. :)

Is that worth it? Depends on the SSD and what you use the system for (how much idle time it gets, etc etc).

Wait to upgrade your mobo. There's a pretty big rumour going round (or has it been confirmed?) that the upcoming AM3+ boards will support older CPU's, meaning that you'll be able to drop your 955 in there, you'll have to get new RAM though. That way you'll be future proof for when BD comes out

To answer your question: The performance difference between DDR2 and DDR3 is maybe 2-5% (synthetic benchmarks), despite the vast bandwidth improvement. If you're looking to maximize performance upgrade, you should instead upgrade your CPU and GPU.

what would you consider an upgrade from a 955 BE and 2 2gb 4870 video cards ?

I wouldn't if I was running that, save the DX11 support of newer GPU's, and their cooler running higher efficency design.

Beyond that you should still have very good performance all things considered.

ST is right! You still have a very good computer after all is said and done.

that's just waste of $ for upgrading the memory only.
